Achievers After-school Academy (The Academy) provides a positive, nurturing and safe learning environment for elementary and middle-school students. The Academy will create meaningful and motivating interactions and experiences for every enrolled student.
Utilizing the five concepts of research-based SEL, Social Emotional Learning – self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making – these concepts are fundamentally critical in a student’s educational and developmental progression and incorporated in the afterschool learning programs and activities.
The Academy's curriculum is designed to support and facilitate a student’s success in school through academic enrichment, health and wellness, and social emotional learning. The Academy's goals will
· Enhance student achievement and academic growth
· Promote a collaborative community for teaching and learning
· Provide a safe, secure and supportive environment for learning
· Integrate social, physical, emotional and behavioral skills by incorporating academics, arts and athletics.
All students will receive a Daily Affirmation and one student will lead the group in reciting this affirmation. This approach is designed as the beginning steps in leadership, self-confidence and communication skills.
Creative Arts
Creativity will be an important programming staple as it gives the student the opportunity for self-expression. Individuals from the arts and cultural venues will be invited as a way to connect and expose the student to the diverse types of artistic and culture and enhance the student’s creative development and education.
Healthy Bodies / Healthy Minds
The Academy’s holistic approach to child development includes healthy doses of physical activities and socialization. This approach is achieved through vigorous play inclusive of group interaction and individual activities.
Academic Enrichment
This program segment is designed to enhance and maximize the student’s academic readiness and learning in reading, writing, listening, communicating, math, science, technology and history.
